California City

California City is approximately 100 miles north from the city of Los Angeles. It is in Kern County between Edward Air Force Base and China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station. A city of clean air, and beautiful landscape, California City, was incorporated in 1965. It is a city in the Mojave Desert's Fremont Valley of northern Antelope Valley, in Kern County, north of nearby Mojave, California. The population was 14,120 at the 2010 census, up from 8,385 at the 2000 census.

 

California City has one landowners' resort, one PGA golf course, one municipal airport, schools, restaurant, a fire and police department, and many other amenities. Much of the city workforce is made up of employees from Edwards Air Force Base, which is located just south of the city. Other major sources of employment include the Mojave Air & Space Port, California City Prison, the Honda Proving Center, and Hyundai/Kia Proving Grounds. Nearby cities and town are Mojave, Tehachapi, Ridgecrest, Boron, Palmdale, and Lancaster.
